Here is this week's learning for you.
This week I chose the book 'The Snail and the Whale' by Julia Donaldson to continue with our theme of Creepy Crawlies and Julia Donaldson's books!
I hope you enjoy the activities, as before I have put a variety for you to pick and choose from, if you compete it all that is brilliant. Please encourage the children to do some writing, I have added some sounds mats and tricky word sheets to help.

This week I chose the book 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson to continue with our theme of Creepy Crawlies. Don't worry if you don't have the book there is a clip on the learning menu.
I have added lots of different suggestions that fit with this book but please be led by your child and treat it as a bit of pick and mix, in the Early Years it is important that they lead their learning.

Week 3 - 20.04.2020
Welcome back to Term 5
I hope you are continuing to stay safe and have enjoyed the break from home schooling.
Our learning theme for this term would have been, “Creepy crawlies” – (minibeasts/inspects). Although we are not back in school – we thought it would be helpful to still have a ‘theme’, however, please do not feel you MUST do all the suggested activities. If your child is interested in a different ‘theme’ – then be led by them – you will be leading your own, ‘In the Moment Planning!’
In FS we have a ‘fluid’ set routine – across the week. However, we would aim to fit in the following at some point:
Each day -
A phonics session – Approx. 20 minutes
A writing activity – Either child/teacher initiated. The child needs to see a purpose to what is being asked of them.
A maths activity – approx. 20 minutes
I would recommend that you find time to read with and to your child every day.
The other learning activities – and any others that you may want to include – for example, playing board games – important for turn taking and learning that you can’t always win. Singing – do you sing a song every day? Or play/make musical instruments. How about act out a story? Look at a map/globe. Where would you like to visit – when we can travel again? How will you get there? What will you do there? What is the weather like in that country? Can be fitted in as and when.
We understand that this is a difficult time, and for many of you, in addition to home learning you will also be trying to work from home.
Be kind to yourself – and remember you are doing a great job!

Friday 27th March (6.30am)
As I type this - I hope all Robins are still fast asleep!
Thank you to those of you that have sent pictures and updates of your learning. I'm glad that to see that some of you are taking part in the Joe Wicks workouts at 9am. I like pretending to be a kangaroo - but am not so keen on the karate kicks!
As you know, it is show and tell today. I hope you will all continue to do this at home. I would like to 'share' something with you. This week I received a letter from my 'penfriend' who lives in Germany. She used to live in Cornwall, and we met once - a long time ago. We have been writing to each other for 43 years! Although postage stamps are expensive (ask a grown up), and call me old-fashioned (ask a grown up what that means!) - nothing beats receiving a 'nice' letter through the post. Perhaps next week we could have 'writing a letter' as one of our 'fun things to do'?

Welcome to the Robins home learning page. On the Wk 1 menu document you will find numerous learning activities. Children are very adaptable, and I have no doubt that you will continue to be a fantastic support to your children.
You may (or may not!) find it useful to have some sort of routine to your day. However, I would suggest the following learning times as a maximum time limit -
Daily
Phonics (15 minutes) - see Week 1 menu for ideas/links.
Read every day - as much as you can whenever you can. Remember this should be fun - and something that you both enjoy and want to do.
Writing - Encourage your child to write about 'anything' that interests them (see Wk 1 menu). For example - write a list shopping list. Design and label an Easter egg hunt map. Write a caption for a model that has been created. Please resist the temptation to sound out each word for your child. Instead, encourage and support your child to independently sound out and write the corresponding letter sounds that he/she can hear. I do not expect all words to be correct! As adults we forget that writing is hard work, the children have to think about lots of different skills at the same time. Sounding out the word, remembering what the sounds are, forming the letters - and remembering what you intended to write in the first place! Some children are reluctant to write, without constant reassurance from an adult. Please support your child to understand that we learn by making mistakes. The more they practise writing, the easier it becomes.

Although the Government has stated there will be no formal assessments at the end of the academic year, I would like to remind you of the Early Learning Goals. A copy was given to everyone at the last parent meetings, but I have also posted a copy for you to refresh your memory.
Teaching in Foundation Stage is a privilege. As parents you have always played the most important role in your child's progress. I know you are all going to do a fantastic job. Do not allow your child to inform you, "this is boring!", what they usually mean is, "this is challenging and I don't want to try"!
I have no doubt we will all become more resilient.
We will go down in history.
I will be in touch. Do check the page on a regular basis. Do not feel daunted by the information on the Wk 1 menu. Use this time to be creative, learn and laugh.
